Alishan Forest Recreation Area

Alishan Forest Recreation Area is located within Alishan National Scenic Area, and is one of the most scenic spots in Taiwan. The climate does not change much throughout four seasons. Average temperature hover around 10 degree Celsius, making Alishan a great place to get away from the hot and humid summers of Taiwan.

Alishan Forest Recreation Area contains the largest  train station in Taiwan made entiredly of wood, and  was established in 2007 with an accompanying observatory. Therefore, once you arrive at Alishan Forest Recreation Area, you have all the tools to best appreciate the famous sea of clouds and other breathtaking views such as sunrise and sunset. In addition, you can see the cliff of Ta Mountain, which is the Tsou’s (Indigenous people of Taiwan) sacred mountain. Since the establishment of Alishan road in 1982, the Alishan Forest Recreation Area has become a very popular scenic spot in Alishan tourism. Alishan Forest Recreation is an excellent place for bird watching. The main bird watching trail is the annularity path in the recreation area, it is a four kilometer path surrounded by forest.

Recently, numerous Alishan hotels and restaurants open up in the area, which has made Alishan a popular shopping district for souvenirs and unique aboriginal cuisines. The recreation area is divided into two parts: west and east. The west side has Ciyun temple and the east side is the divine trees area. There are many attractions to appreciate in Alishan Forest Recreation Area, so you may want to allow for a couple of days here when planning.
